ABOUT US

Our Story

Chronos 1907 began with a passion for timepieces and a commitment to preserving their beauty and precision. Founded by James Whitmore in 1907, our journey started in a small workshop in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. As a skilled watchmaker, James dedicated his life to crafting solutions that ensured the longevity and elegance of every watch entrusted to his care.

ABOUT

In the early days, James focused on designing custom watch boxes and winders for Lancaster's watch collectors and local elites, quickly gaining a reputation for unmatched quality and craftsmanship. His philosophy was simple: a watch is more than just a tool to tell timeβ€”it is a legacy, a story passed down through generations.

ABOUT

By the 1950s, the company was passed down to his son, Edward Whitmore, who expanded the business into a small factory on the outskirts of Lancaster. For decades, Chronos 1907 thrived, becoming a trusted name among collectors and watch enthusiasts across the region. However, with the rise of mass production in the 1980s, the physical store was closed, marking the end of an era for the Whitmore family businessβ€”or so it seemed.

ABOUT

Nearly 20 years later, in the early 2000s, William Whitmore, the great-grandson of James, stumbled upon his great-grandfather’s original manuals and design sketches while cleaning out an old family attic. Inspired by James' meticulous craftsmanship and timeless philosophy, William decided to reignite the legacy of Chronos 1907.

ABOUT

Combining tradition with modern innovation, William launched the company as an online boutique, creating handcrafted watch boxes and winders with the same dedication to quality and elegance that defined the brand over a century ago. Today, Chronos 1907 is once again a trusted name, offering solutions that honor the art of watchmaking while meeting the needs of modern collectors.
